Accounting Software
Which system is best for you?
Selecting an
accounting systems can be quite frustrating and arduous task for a non
accountant. How is someone to know what system will best suit the needs
of your organization. There are many ways to go about selecting an
accounting system, and we can help you perform this analysis.
First you will
want to get an idea about how you want to use the system. Do you want to
only use the system to write checks, manage a small inventory, do very basic
accounting, and have only a few users? If this is the case, you
will probably do just fine with a system like QuickBooks, PeachTree, or
MYOB. My favorite of these three is QuickBooks as it is fairly easy to
use. A new option comes from Oracle in the Small Business Suite.
This ASP is called NetLedger and it allows you to do your accounting and books
online. There are many satisfied customers using this program right
now. This may be a nice way of operating, however there are some things
to consider. First, all of your accounting and sensitive financial data
will be housed on Oracle's servers. It is possible that some Oracle
employees will have access to this information. A second concern of mine
is that using this software is dependent on a reliable internet connection.

Which system is best for you? (Continued)
If you are a small
business and want to aggressively pursue e-commerce, you may want to look at
Oracles Small Business Suite. This suite will help you to integrate your
accounting information with an e-commerce site. This can be a powerful
solution.
If your
organization wants to get more out of online commerce, than your regular
company, you want to go with a more powerful solution. These types of
solutions are backed by a solid database such as Oracle, or MS SQL Server, or
DB2. These types of solutions require a much larger financial investment
and much more employee involvement. If your company is looking to pursue
a serious e-commerce strategy you will want to contact a professional solutions
provider to get assistance.
